Discovery Place Charlotte
Dinosaurs. Science. Air conditioning. Yep, sign me up. Living in Charlotte and working uptown I’ve always heard about the Discovery Place as a great place to take your kids. Well, I’m not from here like most Charlotte residents, so I always wondered if it was worth the membership fee or the day fee and would my precious little snowflakes enjoy it enough to spend that kinda dough. Um, the answer is yes, and if anyone can gift me a membership for Christmas that would great. Please and thank you.
The Discovery Place is where it’s at if you need a weather break, like OMG it’s already winter and my eyeballs just froze shut, or OMG Charlotte is two inches from the sun and I think my stroller wheels just melted.
Right now, they have a T-Rex exhibit and it’s lit. Included with of all the cool sciency things to play with like the giant hamster wheel, skeleton exhibit and the bed of nails, they have this interactive T-Rex spot that is awesome. Personally, we have a budding paleontologist in our house who has quickly upped my game in dinosaur knowledge. So, let me tell you, when he saw that giant T-Rex skeleton his mind went – Beckoooowwwwww. Bringing both the kids to this exhibit was a little challenging, but thank goodness for that Double Stroller (Shout out to the City Mini Double Stroller.)
They do have activities and areas for the little littles. I mean you really don’t have to be a pre-teen to enjoy watching an octopus or seeing the taxidermy moose or polar bear. Pro tip: you should totally scare your kid when they see a polar bear for the first time. Whoops.
On top of all the different activities for different ages, they also have a pretty sweet café on the bottom floor next to the Imax Theater. Pizza is delicious, and the quality of food will surprise you. And if you dare, give your kid a green frog cupcake on the way out and see how long it takes to fall on the ground. *hand raise* guilty as charged.
TLDR: Discovery Place exhibits = worth the membership and worth the trip to Uptown Charlotte
